PREVENTIVE CARE
Preventive care works on the principle that prevention is better than cure. It consists of measures taken for disease prevention, as opposed to disease treatment. During a preventive visit, the Doctor or physician determines what tests or screening are appropriate for a person based on many factors such as age, gender, overall health status, personal health history (family health history) and current symptoms or chronic health concerns.
It consists of healthcare services that include check-ups, patient counselling and screening to prevent illness, disease and other health-related problems for the elder community. The disease prevention relies on anticipatory actions that can be categorized as primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. Just as we take precautions for our children, protecting them and increasing their immunity to various ailments, elders (second childhood) need proactive preventive care. Screening for blood pressure, cholesterol, depression, fall prevention techniques, diabetes (type 2), diet counselling, hepatitis B screening, rubella, chickenpox, lung functioning, dental, eyes are some precautionary preventive care that elders must observe.
The above mentioned screening or various types of illness is part of the medical care planned and executed for the residents of CovaiCare retirement communities.
Preventive care can help one avoid potentially serious health conditions and/or obtain early diagnosis and treatment. Earlier the diagnosis, better the outcome. Covai’s PolyCare has been created to handle the preventive care through concept of family physician.
