BLURB

What moves a timid girl to turn aggressive? Can a very old man conquer his abject fear of death? Why is love so difficult to recognize? How does utter revulsion turn to acceptance?

The answers to these questions and more are couched in the multifaceted and inspirational short stories belonging to different genres – romance, comedy, horror and poignant human interest. They explore the depth of emotions that drive ordinary people to rise to extraordinary heights in moments extraordinary.

One discovers that there is much more to routine events than meets the eye and simplicity can actually be quite complex. The inexplicable presence of miracle in life never ceases to surprise.

Written with clarity and sensitivity, Malati Jaikumar’s keen perception and awareness of human relationships and emotions make the stories come alive. She captures the effervescent humour of youth, the pathos of heart rending loss and total depression as well as the sheer terror and torture within the so called safe four walls of a house.

Sixteen of the 20 powerful narratives revolve around women from different strata of society, delving deep into their minds and emotions as they struggle to emerge from a trapped and claustrophobic existence.

When asked what moved her to write the book, Malati Jaikumar said, “The Pandemic was a depressing time but it also inspired many people to do something. With nowhere to go and with little chance of seeing my children and grandchildren I needed to lift my spirits. So I escaped into the world and minds of imaginary characters. I have always liked writing because it keeps me happy and satisfied. I kept writing stories of different genres and it kept growing. My husband suggested I share the stories by publishing it and it clicked. It has resonated with many readers and has touched a chord in people.”

Dear All,

Tell me a story, its the demand of every child before going to bed, night after night. stories spark imagination , curiosity & wonderment in the child , and this carries through our adult life.

We have been handed over great stories over the ages which we read, hear and learn from the epics like Mahabharata & Ramayana. Good orators, captivate us with such wonderful stories in their speeches.

As we grow up we automatically tell stories at various stages in our life, in fact our job experiences are a string of stories to get a potential employer interested in us, and our life itself a string of stories , to relish at leisure .

Stories help us empathise, it touches our emotions.
